TNReady Math Standards
The TNReady State Math Standards will prepare Tennessee students with the most important knowledge and skills to compete in an increasingly global environment. These standards will emphasize thinking, problem solving, and creativity, and introduce next generation assessments that will give students, parents, and educators better information about college- and career-readiness based on performance beyond multiple-choice tests.
The transition to new standards gives us the opportunity to revisit our instructional practice to support growth for all students. Effective teaching requires continuous improvement and the Tennessee Department of Education is committed to providing educators with resources and information throughout this transition to support reflection and spark meaningful conversation about teaching and learning. TNCORE (Website) is designed to be the primary hub for information about TN Ready implementation and a portal to resources from educators across the state and across the country.
The Mathematics standards present an opportunity to engage Tennessee students more deeply in the types of problem solving and mathematical thinking that build the fundamental and adaptive math skills necessary for life after high school. Please find below information about the key instructional shifts called for by the TNReady, the Focus Standards which will be used to start the transition, videos about the TNReady, assessment shifts, an explanation of how all of these pieces fit together in Tennessee’s transition plan, and a list of helpful resources.
